Meet to Open

Privacy Policy

Meet to Open

thinkingcat (“we”) respects the privacy of everyone who uses the Meet to Open app (the “App”). This policy explains what information the App handles and how.

1. Information we collect

We do not collect any information that identifies you — no name, phone number, email address or location. The App has no sign-up or login, and the notes you write and your friends list are never sent to our servers.

2. Information stored only on your device

The following stays on your device and is deleted when you delete the App.

  • Notes you put in friends’ boxes and notes you receive from friends
  • Your friends list (the names you gave them, random identifiers and encryption keys)
  • Your nickname, public note, character (hair and outfit color), theme and notification settings
  • People you have hidden

3. Information exchanged with nearby devices over Bluetooth

Instead of a server, the App talks directly to nearby devices over Bluetooth. None of this passes through us.

  • To people nearby with the App open: a random identifier that changes regularly, your character, and your public note (up to 40 characters). Your real name, device name and phone number are never sent.
  • Only on the add-friend screen: your nickname and encryption (public) key
  • When you meet a friend: the notes left in their box, end-to-end encrypted (P-256 ECDH · AES-256-GCM) so that only the two of you can open them. We cannot read them.

4. Permissions and how they are used

  • Bluetooth: to find friends and people nearby and to pass notes along.
  • Location: required by iOS and Android to detect Bluetooth beacons nearby. The App never reads, stores or sends your coordinates.
  • Camera: only to scan a friend’s QR code. No photos are kept.
  • Notifications: a vibration alert when you meet a friend. Alerts never include names, counts or note contents.

5. What the App checks online

To check for new versions and announcements, the App contacts our configuration address (admin.thinkingcatworks.com) and the app stores (Apple App Store and Google Play). No personal information or App content is sent. As with any web request, your IP address may briefly appear in server logs; we do not use it to identify you.

6. Reports

When you report a stranger’s public note, your mail app opens with a draft to thinkingcatworks@gmail.com. It is sent only if you tap send. We use report emails (the sender address and what you wrote) solely to handle the report and delete them once they are no longer needed for that purpose.

7. Sharing, processors and international transfers

We do not share your personal information with third parties or use processors, and the App contains no advertising or analytics tools.

8. Children

The App is not directed at children under 14 (under 13 in the United States), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

9. Your rights

You may ask us at any time to access, correct, delete or stop processing your personal information. Apart from report emails we hold none; information on your device can be removed in the App or by deleting the App. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or the CCPA), you may have additional rights, which you can exercise by contacting us below.
